Packing Service

Given the distance from Spain to New Zealand, proper export packing is necessary. We pack boxes, disassemble furniture, and wrap everything securely for export. Upon arrival in New Zealand, we can unpack and remove debris at destination upon request. For fragile or valuable items, we can provide special wrapping.

Transport options

We offer three main transport options for your move, depending on the volume of your goods and your timeline:

  • Full Sea Container (FCL): For boxes, furniture and complete households, generally requiring 8 or more cubic metres of space. Transit times for FCL shipments are from port to port and take about 3 – 4 months.
  • LCL Groupage Container: For smaller volumes, usually 3 to 8 cubic metres, if you only take small items like boxes and perhaps some small furniture. We pack goods into specially designed cardboard liftvans (crates) to avoid ISPM-15 wood fumigation and quarantine issues at destination. Another major advantage of the liftvan is that it can be adjusted in height, so we can limit the volume to your needs without wasting space. These liftvans are then loaded into an LCL groupage container for sea transport, which takes about 3 – 4 months.
  • Airfreight: For urgent, small shipments of up to 1 or 2 cubic metres. Transit time is about 1 – 3 weeks.

Please bear in mind that all transit times are estimates. They depend heavily on the availability of shipping containers, space on the ships or flights, and the speed of Customs and Quarantine inspections at your destination.

Customs clearance

Wisse Moving handles both export customs clearance in Spain and import customs clearance in New Zealand.

To process your shipment, you must provide the following required documents:

  • Passport
  • Visa
  • Inventory/Packing list provided by us
  • Waybill provided by us
  • Destination-specific customs forms (Unaccompanied Personal Baggage Declaration)

Used household goods and furniture can generally be imported free of duties and taxes if you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, hold a permanent resident visa, or have a work visa issued for a minimum of 12 months. You must be present in New Zealand when your goods arrive; otherwise, taxes and duties apply.

Most household goods are inspected by the MPI Quarantine Service. Items like bicycles, tents, and garden furniture must be clean before packing. Due to MPI quarantine laws, containers cannot go directly from the port to your residence. They must be inspected at an approved facility first.

Prohibited items

To comply with international logistics and New Zealand border regulations, you must never include the following items in your move:

  • Food
  • Perishable items
  • Electric vehicles (e-bikes, scooters, etc.)
  • Hazardous goods
  • Firearms
  • Weapons
  • Live animals or plants
  • High-powered batteries

No batteries whatsoever of any kind, nor liquids, are allowed in airfreight. Additionally, if you plan to ship alcohol, please note that it is subject to duties and taxes at the destination. We also advise against packing objectionable materials, drugs, medicines, or items made from endangered species.
